Belize City,
Heritage Bank Limited is a private limited liability company incorporated under the Laws of Belize (Chapter 250 Revised Edition 2000) on December 7, 1999. The Bank was issued bank license No. 1 of 2000 on November 15, 2000 under the Banks and Financial Institutions Act (BFIA) (Chapter 263 of the Substantive Laws of Belize, Revised Edition 2000). Heritage evolved from a merger of Provident Bank & Trust of Belize Limited established in 1998 to provide international banking services, and Alliance Bank of Belize Limited established in 2001 to provide domestic banking services. These two institutions had common shareholders. In 2006 there was a change in the shareholding of the Bank when Provident Bank acquired the majority stake in Alliance Bank. In 2008 a strategic decision was made to merge the operations of both Alliance Bank of Belize Limited and Provident Bank & Trust of Belize Limited. All functions of the two institutions were consolidated to benefit from economies of scale resulting in corporate synergies with best practices applied throughout the organizations.

Today we operate 9 branches across the country and offer a complete range of retail and commercial banking services — including online banking and electronic cash management. Scotiabank opened its first branch in Belize City in December, 1968. Retail banking expanded in the 1970s and 1980s, with the addition of three more branches. Activity in the branches in Belize reflected the economic growth of the country and was heavily centred on the agricultural industry. Business continued to grow during the late 1990s and, by 2008, 9 branches had been established. With 9 branches throughout the country, Scotiabank offers a complete range of retail and commercial banking, including electronic cash management. The Bank has about 187 employees, plus 18 ATMs countrywide. We’re a strong supporter of various community initiatives and our charitable contributions range from sports programmes and education to arts and culture.
