There was a time in Saint Lucia’s past where the average, working class civil servant was not very welcome by the large multinational banks from the United Kingdom and Canada, on the island. Even as early as the 1960s, it was almost impossible for a Saint Lucian householder of modest means to get a loan to purchase land, buy farming equipment or a home, or start a business. Then some patriotic citizens rebelled against the system and led by Bernis Jn Baptiste, they founded the Credit Union, based in a small office on 79 Chaussee Road. The location of that first office became the Bernis Jn Baptiste Building and the beginning of a solid legacy of caring not only for the average, working class public servant in Saint Lucia but also the communities from where they come. Our Vision: To be the responsive and premier financial institution which enhances your life. Our Mission: Jannou Credit Union is member owned and dedicated to providing convenient, quality and personalized service while maintaining financial stability. We seek to provide ultimate customer satisfaction by a highly trained group of motivated volunteers and staff who are supported by automation and technology. We will undertake to enhance our members' financial health and quality of life. We will engage in demonstrable corporate social responsibility.

The Barbados Police Co-op Credit Union replaced the Savings Society of 1958 and was registered at the Department of Co-operatives on November 24th, 1960. Officials of the Credit Union met in a small office (about 15ft sq.) at Central Police Station in shared accommodation with the Police Association. The first President was Inspector John Hutson. Other past Presidents included Harold Banfield, Harold Jones and Aviston Prescod. The first Secretary was Mr. Lionel Lloyd. Major Ronald Stoute was Commissioner of Police who believed that there should be more than a mere Savings Society which was registered in 1958 and he threw his weight behind the Credit Union. In the early 1980's The office of the Credit Union moved a few steps across the yard at CPS to building about the twice the size of the previous one. From there it moved to rented premises at James Street, in 1989 then to its present location in Lightfoot Lane in January 1993. None of the recognized lending Institutions at the time, had any interest in Co-operatives. They were seen mainly as an extension of what is commonly known as a '"meeting turn." Members saved about $2.00 per month and to save $ 5.00 in those days was unique. The Annual General Meetings were held in the Recreation Room at CPS. Numbers started to increase in the early 1970's as the Credit Union gained acceptance among members. The Police Credit Union was the first Credit Union in Barbados to reach the million dollar Share Capital milestone and it has steadily grown due to the committed patronage of members. The Late Bro Kenrick Hutson remarked in his speech on January 1978 to celebrate this achievement “….we are celebrating an achievement which can be considered as one of the landmarks in the history of the Barbados Police Credit Union. It was sometime during the month of August, 1977 that we reached one million dollars in share capital.”

Jamaica Police Co-operative Credit Union Limited (JPCCU) was founded July 4th, 1955 by 11 rank and file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force with each contributing one (1) shilling (equivalent of ten cents today). It was established with the specific mandate to encourage collective savings and to provide loans to the members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. To date, the Credit Union's raison d'être remains to help our Members elevate their financial status and achieve their goals; through specialized products formulated with their financial needs in mind. The Credit Union started its operation in a small room at the East Street Police canteen. As the Movement grew and the membership rapidly increased, JPCCU moved it's only operating office at the time to Elleston Road. The office was moved to Hope Road and later returned to Elleston Road. After many years of operation at the Elleston Road location, the need for greater comfort to our growing membership base became a priority resulting in the purchasing of its office space at Church Street, a building purchased solely from surplus made by the Credit Union.

In 2016, as EduCom sought to expand and grow, we engaged with St. Catherine Co-operative Credit Union Limited, SCCUL, to acquire their operations on January 1, 2017. This merger resulted in the transfer of the assets and liabilities of the SCCUL to EduCom Co-operative Credit Union Limited, resulting in a combined asset base for EduCom of $8.1 billion and increasing its membership to 67,000. This has resulted in a network of nine (9) branches spread island wide which ranks EduCom in the number 5 position among large Credit Unions. Based on the similarities of both credit unions, combining their strengths gives the opportunity to deliver stronger financial performance and offer a wider range of financial products to an expanded membership base. This strategic merger will have significant benefits to the members and the sustained viability of the merged entity, resulting in an increased Capital Base to mitigate against risk along with expanding the reach and scope of the credit union so as to attract more members and increase our market share. EduCom's objective will be to continue adding Value through Service, Integrity Innovation and Commitment to its members while improving our viability and sustainability so that we are able to enhance our overall member value proposition in the long term.
